Women in Design and Education

With International Women’s Day celebrated globally on 8 March, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate some of our talented and inspiring female educators.

The delivery of our industry recognised courses would not be possible without our incredible educators. Their expert knowledge and industry experience alongside their dedication and compassion for all of our student community is something we, as a design school, pride ourselves on.

That being said, let’s meet a few of our interior design educators and learn about where they have come from.

Gabrielle Rosenfeld

Gabby has been an Interior Designer for over 15 years and runs her own property styling business Freestyle Interiors based on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Gabby joined ISCD as the Online Education Manager in 2020.

“Working with a team of such passionate and talented educators is very inspiring and rewarding.”

One of Gabby’s recent projects was working with our client developer Masterline Homes in Mornington. They styled a beautiful new build in Mount Martha with a Hamptons inspired design brief. Her team of stylists injected soul and personality into the space with beautiful furniture, artwork and accessories.

“The property market is very hot right now so I don’t see ourselves slowing down anytime soon. Due to Covid a lot of people have moved to the area as they are able to work remotely and enjoy a lifestyle on the coast. It’s a win win!”

Edwina Straub

With over 20 years in the interior design industry in both Australia and the US Edwina brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to ISCD.

“Since 2016, I have been teaching at ISCD and love to see our students excel and launch themselves into interior design careers. I encourage every student to think big!”

Since returning to Australia Edwina has completed her masters degree and consults in the interior design industry with her own private clients and interior designers.

“I love all aspects of design and constantly expanding my knowledge at every opportunity.”

Edwina is currently working on two heritage projects in Paddington NSW.

A suburb in Sydney that was destined in the 1940s for developers to tear down the beautiful Victorian terraces to be replaced with red brick flats. Luckily the European immigrants saw the beauty and cared for these beautiful terraces so as interior designers we are lucky to work with these homes today.”

Emily MacAlpine

Emily MacAlpine has a Bachelor of Design (Architecture) from the University of Sydney and a Diploma of Interior Styling from the International School of Colour and Design. Along with a number of years working with an internationally renowned art consultant.

Emily’s passion for all things design came from her grandparents. The generation that has seen everything.

From their mail being delivered with a horse and sulky all the way to iPhones. Yet, one thing remained constant: their “waste not, want not” and “buy once, buy well” attitudes.”

Emily runs and owns MARG. Studio, driven by the “design once, design well” motto. Inspired by her grandparents’ generation.

At the beginning of 2021, Emily moved from Victoria to Orange NSW. So is currently spending her time settling into her hometown and getting to know her new local suppliers. As well as working on a 100-year-old farmhouse renovation near Orange and a few first home buyer renovations.
