I was attracted to teaching at iscd because of its creative, exciting and fun environment. I began teaching subjects in Certificate IV in Interior Decoration in 2016. Throughout my career I have had great teachers/lecturers and mentors; after having kids, and setting up my freelance business, I decided it was time to give something back.
My background is in textiles for interiors. I have developed designs for luxury carpets, rugs and wallpapers for leading international design companies, Brintons and de Gournay. I have also worked for Charles Parsons in the design and manufacture of bed linen for the retail market. Working for international carpet manufacturer Brintons, I designed carpets and rugs for prominent hotel projects including Grand Hyatt Melbourne, Shangri-La Sydney, Melbourne Marriott Hotel, Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel at Circular Quay and Pan Pacific Singapore.
As a product developer for established Australian homewares company Charles Parsons designing bed linen for brands such as Harris Scarfe, Spotlight, My House and Adairs. Whilst abroad I worked for de Gournay, one of the leading interior design houses in the UK home interiors market. de Gournay specialise in hand painted Chinoiserie wallpaper and 18th century French scenic designs.
Being apart of iscd’s creative learning environment is so exciting and rewarding because of the students. I enjoy following their progression throughout the course, at the start learning skills and processes and later applying them to industry briefs. The hands-on “doing” class exercises really makes the students explore, share and mould their own ways of working creatively.
