Following the announcement of iscd becoming an 100% online school we wanted to ensure that everyone knows the friendly faces behind our courses, the people that help you throughout your journey whilst studying with us.

Introducing our some of Interiors Education Team:

Cherie Karlsson

Education Manager

After studying Visual Communications + Architecture and working as an artist in the fast paced fashion industry, by my early 20’s I was off and running with my own designer stationery and homewares business. I had packed a lot in before children came along, and with the pause in lifestyle I took on some extra studies at iscd – completing both the Certificate IV in Design and the Colour Design Diploma. Little did I know that this was to put my career on a new course!

After studying I was invited back to teach on campus at iscd in Sydney, and although my Colour, Design & Interiors business was growing very quickly with exciting Residential and Commercial projects, I continued to teaching at iscd for the next 9 years. For me, teaching became my new passion. The reward of helping others to find their creativity, their hidden talents and most importantly their belief in themselves has become my proudest accomplishment to date.

After returning to Sydney from 4 years living and teaching in Stockholm, Sweden, I returned to iscd. Being so immersed in Scandinavian life and culture has altered not only my own design sense but has given me fresh eyes with which to view the world.

Daina Jamieson

Education Manager

My background is in architecture and I have worked in a number of Sydney based practices over my career.  I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work on projects varying in size from small alterations and additions to large urban design projects.

I have always had a love of design and this drew me to do further study at iscd.  After completing the Certificate IV in Design, Surface Design and Colour Diplomas to compliment my architectural background, I was thrilled to stay on as an educator both on campus and online.

I enjoy balancing working in the design industry with my passion for teaching.  Seeing students go from limited or no design knowledge at all to gaining the confidence to do something they love is an amazing experience.

Michael Allsopp

I began my journey in design almost 10 years ago when I began my studies at UTS and completed a Bachelor of Design in Architecture. I had always loved buildings and design therefore studying architecture seemed like a logical progression. While at University, I discovered the world of interiors and continued to choose only interior subjects for my electives. I continued my studies and graduated with a Diploma in Secondary Education (Design and Technology) at ACU. Upon completion of my courses I followed my passion and entered the world of Interior Design where I have worked on various projects including interior concepts, styling and renovations.

For the last 5 years my focus has been designing custom joinery pieces for both residential and commercial clients within Sydney. These projects include renovations, reception desks, media wall units, multi-functional units as well as custom furniture pieces. This work highlights the importance of material selection, detail in design, budgets as well as the combination of both form and function within built interiors.

I feel excited and privileged that I can share my knowledge and experiences of Interior Design with you all.  I hope my guidance and “tricks of the trade” will help equip you for your studies and subsequent professional work within the multidisciplinary world of Interior Design.

Emily MacAlpine

After studying architecture I went on to work at Sydney firm, Tanner Architects which exposed me to both residential and commercial projects. It is from working there that I found my passion for the finer details of design.

This experience led me to study the Diploma of Styling at iscd which gave me the confidence to set up my own creative business while working with a contemporary art consultant. I relocated to Melbourne in 2016 and continue to teach at iscd

I have always loved drawing, painting and generally anything to do with making things by hand. It is a real pleasure to be able to share these skills with the students at iscd.

Sallyanne Prudence

Many of my childhood memories revolved about the fascination with colour so it is not surprising that this curiosity would eventually lead to a career focussed on this amazing medium.

After a few career twists and turns, I trained in Interior Design (both Residential and Commercial) in London and while leading an extended travelling life I had the opportunity to explore both colour and design throughout our amazing world. Returning to Australia, I honed my skills by studying at iscd (Cert IV in Design and Dip. Colour Design) allowing my colour knowledge to flourish.

Today I remain passionate about colour and interior design and now divide my time between running my own interiors and colour design business and enjoying the rewards of inspiring creative minds, as an iscd Online Educator.
