Melanie is a wife, mother of three, a part time primary school teacher and has recently started her own small business making special occasion cakes. Melanie has recently completed her Diploma online with ISCD. We caught up with her to find out about her experience and why she recommends studying online.

“I chose to study with ISCD because of their great reviews and successful outcomes. I live in regional Western Australia so online was the only option for me. ISCD’s online course offered the flexibility I needed and I also liked that it was a 2 year course which resulted in an accredited diploma.”

3 Reasons Melanie Recommends Studying Online with ISCD

1. Flexibility and Course Structure

“The best thing about studying online is that it is so flexible. I have worked on readings and assignments in caravan parks on holidays, in the car on long trips and late into many nights. The fact that I can work at my own pace, but still need to stick to deadlines, has really helped me to keep moving forward. I find that the online course is flexible enough to work around my household commitments and my study is something that I have been able to keep up with while I complete my work when it best suits me and my family.”

2. Online Educators

“My educators have been amazing and I don’t think I would’ve continued through to my final study period if I hadn’t had the support, motivation and knowledge that they have offered me. Confidence is not my strong suit, but they continually helped me to realise that I could complete each assignment to a high level.”

3. The Online Community

“I didn’t ever feel like I was missing out by not being in an actual tutorial or class. The way that the course is structured with lots of discussion boards means that there is always a way to get in touch with people or share ideas.”

“One thing I would say to anyone thinking about studying online with ISCD is, you won’t regret it! It has taught me so much, given me confidence in my abilities, helped me to realise the steps I need to take to start up a small business and allowed me to have a creative outlet beyond what was possible living in a small rural town.”

Melanie shared her favourite assessment from the course, how gorgeous is her work!?

“Subject 12: Residential Interiors 1 has been my favourite so far. The two assessments – Residential Decoration & Small Space Design – required the most time and effort but it was amazing to look back on my written documentation, concept boards, mood boards, hand-drawn and AutoCAD tech drawings & renderings and realise all of the skills that I have learnt and developed throughout the course. I also enjoyed going with totally different styles for very different client briefs with each of those assignments.”

ISCD has a 40-year proven track record of producing leading Australian interior designers. We know design intimately, from colour theory, to furniture selection to the latest industry trends.
