“The Pantone® Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.”
– Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone® Color Institute.
It’s December… which means one thing for us designers and colour enthusiasts, the release of 2018 Pantone® Colour of the Year. Announced yesterday, 2018 is Ultra Violet.
Every year Pantone® chooses a colour that that reflects current fashions and cultures of today and sets trends for the year ahead. They choose a colour in the hope that it inspires creatives and designers.
Once the new colour is released Pantone® offer colour pairing swatches to help create colour palettes for use in fashion and interiors alike.
Rue Daily spoke with Laurie Pressman, about how Pantone® see colour-trends for fashion and interiors.
“While colour today applies to lifestyle as a whole, what is different between colour trends for fashion and interiors is the application and the approach. When it comes to fashion one can wear something for a brief period of time and then put it back in the closet, whereas with interiors, for the most part you are living with that colour choice every day so you may approach your purchase more carefully. A colour that may work for a dress may not work for a sofa even though both are focal points. For interiors that same color might be better used on a pillow as an accent.”
