Every July and December the International School of Colour and Design is proud to celebrate it's students latest accomplishments.

Two hundred graduates from the Foundation and Diploma courses put their hard work on show through the Ripe Exhibition. iscd has watched its students transform from timid first timers who potentially hadn't picked up a paint brush since high school, into confident colourists and designers.

The excited chatter from studio sessions, the infectious buzz from in and out the campus doors as final works are submitted. Making life long friends whilst travelling on their creative journey, the iscd 2010 End of Year Graduates will be greatly missed around the campus.

Some taking a brave leap into their new careers in the creative industry, others filled to the brim with creative inspiration and fulfilment. Come celebrate, share & experience the excitement this December as the RIPE Exhibition continues from 8 December 2010 to 21 January 2011.

Congratulations & good luck to iscd's 2010 End of Year Graduates!

Here at the International School of Colour and Design, we strive to offer our students and alumni the best possible opportunities. Always having a keen eye open for the latest career boosting chances for Industry exposure... such as the following two newly released competitions!

1. The search for Australia’s best renovator!

The Renovators is an ambitious new television project from the creators of Masterchef Australia. We are holding a nation-wide hunt to find the one person who can prove they are the most talented renovator of all.

Applicants must be ready to roll up your sleeves and dedicate up to six months of your life towards proving you are the best in the nation. We are looking for men and women, aged 18 and above, who have home renovation experience and are ready for a life-changing experience.

The chosen individuals will take on rundown homes, with the aim being to make as much profit as you can in a short space of time through clever renovation. As well as the home makeover, contestants must fight for survival in the competition, through an epic series of additional building and design challenges.

Just one renovator will emerge victorious in this historic winner-takes-all competition.

Apply today at www.therenovators.net.au

2. Showcase your home in the pages of Inside Out Magazine!

Inside Out has been celebrating inspiring homes with heart for over a decade and now it’s your turn to share how you would like to express your own interior flair.

Inside Out is partnering up with Wattyl and iscd to launch their first ever interior design competition. They are after some examples of original, smart and vibrant homes – if this perfectly describes the very place you live in, we suggest you enter!

If you win, you end up the lucky recipient of a prize pool worth over $8,500.00, including an iscd Certificate IV in Design (CUV40303) Foundation Course and a $1,000.00 voucher for Wattyl Paints – PLUS, your home will be featured in Inside Out Magazine!

iscd Surface Design students get practical with Signature Prints

Posted by International School of Colour and Design on 14 September 2010 | 0 Comments

Tags: , ,

This term a lucky number of the International School of Colour and Designs' Surface Design students had an excursion to the Signature Prints warehouse in Sydney.

Here they were shown around behind the scenes of one of Australia's biggest decorative textile design companies, and even got in on some of the action.

Screen printing is still alive and well in the Surface Design Industry, with ancient techniques, although slightly adapted, still being used in manual production.

This is just one of many opportunities the iscd Students get as part of their Industry Recognised specialised Diplomas.

Industry Insider :: iscd Surface Designers take to Signature Prints for a practical excursion

Tags: , ,

Earlier this month some lucky iscd Surface Design students took to the Signature Prints textile showroom for a one on one with industry experts in wallpapers, fabrics and more.

Part of the excursion was a practical lesson on screen printing using real Signature Print patterns and designs, and their unique colour combinations.

This is just one example of the many industry experiences iscd students can be a part of whilst studying at the school. Many going on to continue these relationships with industry, obtaining jobs in head offices, design studios and showrooms.

iscd Represented in Designer Rugs EVOLVE Awards 2010

Posted by International Achool of Colour and Design on 13 August 2010 | 1 Comments

Tags: , , ,

Designer Rugs are proud to launch the inaugural EVOLVE Awards - A design competition like no other! and the International School of Colour and Design is even prouder to announce three of the top 25 semi-finalist designs to be from graduates of the school Jo Mitton and Robyn Hammond.

An inspiration from knitting. Colourful horizontal lines created by large timber needles, then stretched to create a loose knit row allowing the background colour to shine through.

Six winning designs will be made into rugs and will form part of Designer Rugs' ID COLLECTION 2010/2011. Entries are closed and official voting ends November 2010 but recently released were the Top 25 Designs, Peoples Choice Awards.

Based on working with federation fireplaces featuring colourful tiles on surroundings with elaborate pressed metal boarders.

A collection of over 850 designs were entered from full time professional architects, interior designers and interior design industry professionals in Australia and New Zealand. Not only will the winning rugs be made up and put in as part of Designer Rugs ID collection, the designers will go in the running for more than $20,000 in prizes, including a trip to Milan Salone de Mobile 2011!

The judging panel for 2010 includes;

* Sibella Court : Society Inc. retailer, internationally renowned interior stylist, author and colour consultant.

* Shareen Joel: Interior architect and industrial designer.

* Matthew Sheargold: interior designer and product designer.

* Stephen Ormandy: Co-Director, Dinosaur Designs and artist.

* Eli Tal: Chairman, Designer Rugs.

* Yosi Tal: Managing Director, Designer Rugs.

A circular design based on the passionflower motif. Delicate in appearance, yet features strong stamens along with waxy stiff petals.

Robyn Hammond now has her own Colour Consulting busniess. We were lucky enough to catch her and get a few words around her shortlisted design;

"We were offered an informative evening to get a briefing on the requirements of the design awards, and part of this was a viewing of the styles and designs previously made by Designer Rugs. I immediately noticed a lack of circular design rugs so intentionally stuck with this unique dimension. I wanted to keep the colourway simple so that it would appeal to a wider range of people, especially those with quite neutral homes. I found the whole experience from entering right to the design process very enjoyable!"

We wish Jo and Robyn the best of luck in the final stages of judging!

A Day in the Life :: iscd Distance Education Workshop July 2010

Posted by International School of Colour and Design on 16 July 2010 | 0 Comments

Tags: ,

Last Tuesday and Wednesday iscd hosted its mid year Distance Education workshop. Students both new and experienced came together to collaborate and stimulate their creative minds.

Beginning their first day with a personally guided tour of the inspiring Ripe Exhibition currently on show, and had the opportunity to play with professional presentation skills with Education Manager, Nikki Donald.

Along with meeting new friends along the way, each student reflected on what they had taken away from the two days both on a personal, as well as an educational level. Each sharing one common passion... colour and design.

On the Wednesay morning, those lucky enough had a group exploration of the creative hub that is Dank Street, Waterloo.

In true spirit of the 14th July (French Bastille) all involved ended the day with a yummy pastry and hot chocolate at the French Bakery House, Waterloo.

A great success on all accounts, thoroughly enjoyed by everybody. For iscd Distance Education students looking to join the next workshop later in 2010, contact the campus to enquire.
