February 2010 sees the launch of the first iPhone application to feature NCS colour notations. Called Peppermint, the application boasts an intuitive colour selector wheel system which allows users to choose and experiment with colour.

Explore colourways, proportions and access a wide range of colour values with the application before taking them into the real world thanks to the inclusion of the NCS Notation. For more information on NCS Notations system, contact Natural Colour System or read more at Peppermint App.

A definite must for all International School of Colour and Design students on iPhones.

International School of Colour and Design graduate Nikki Lisle was last week seen displaying her passions at the Australian International Furniture Fair at Darling Harbour. After studying the Certificate IV in Design Foundation Course (CUV40303) and going on to win multiple Industry Awards in her Diploma of Interior Styling at the school, Nikki could not be happier that she made the decision to side step from her usual Advertising career and explore her long love for design, style and architecture.

Nikki has started her own company named Sala Verde, it samples an imported line of furnishings from the Philippines which range from pendant lights, cushion covers, candelabras, votive holders, wire bowls all very cool, unique stuff which is hitting Australia for the very first time.

She says the following about her new collection "Most of the products have a sustainable and ethical angle to them - which is very much my ethos when it comes to interior design, I'm very much a believer in natural materials, organic dyes and all things handmade!"

To read up more on Nikki's new feat which is already a great success, visit her website Sala Verde, and be sure to enquire about the iscd incentive.

INSPIRATION :: Antique Iron and Tin, the New Metallics

Posted by International School of Colour and Design on 2 February 2010 | 7 Comments

Tags: , , ,

This year the International School of Colour and Designs "trend scouts" are spotting the comeback of antiques, in a very contemporary way. With the turn of the millennium reviving a sleek, modern, metallic styling of a ‘bright new future' ... 10 years later we are holding on to those metals, but in a very different way. Showing off old, weathered, antiqued tins, irons, steels with a ‘found in the back yard' appeal, against bright, solid Magenta's, Lime's and Gold's gives a refreshed attitude to a once disregarded piece of man-made machinery. Old sewing scissors, looking glasses, cutlery sets and candelabra's all make fantastic feature pieces, matched with sentiment no doubt as they tell an old story through their history of existence.

Part of the iscd Certificate IV in Design CUV40303 Foundation Course takes you into this specific colour way training, of incorporating metals with tertiary palettes. Golds, Coppers and Silvers overlapped with Forest Greens, Desert Pinks, and Cool Metal Purples. What many do not realise is that even metallic's have a distinct colour base, and colour reactions deep down in their minerals, so not any metal, will sit happily with any colour. These images surrounded however, have matched all colour's and design harmoniously.
