Last Thursday evening saw the opening of iscd's 10th Art on the Floor collaborative exhibition with Designer Rugs. Showcasing the top 4 finalists of the competition, who had their dynamic and colourful designs fabricated into actual rugs. Editor of Real Living Magazine Deborah Bibby opened the evening describing the brief as a collaboration which can only occur when there is love present, there was certainly a lot of love in the room between iscd, Designer Rugs and Real Living Magazine. A series of awards were announced by Bibby, and she had the following to say about each of the designs.

Lino is sophisticated - it really is a painting for the floor, developed from one of Pia's orginal lino cuts.

This was a hot favourite with the Designer Rugs judges. Rosie said her design is "an expression of the earth's ebb and flow and the colours are a reflection of the earth from above". What Deborah loved most about Rosie was that she joined iscd to live the life she loves and you can see this energy translated in her work.

Her inspiration was the natural movement and beauty of a bird's wingspan but she was also emotive about how iscd has given her own creative wings.

This rug design jumped out from the pack with its stark, strong and at the same time fragile beauty.

The fact that it quite literally was produced from coffee stains on paper, was so original and made the Real Living team smile. They loved its wit and edgy confidence..
With such originality it was obvious why this was a crowd favourite, and took the Real Living Magazine's People's Choice Award.

After receiving the Real Living Peoples Choice Award, Pia never excepted to be taking away a second, let along the 1st Place for Designer Rugs Art on the Floor Award.
