Prue Royle, Founder, iscd
We are now embracing a new and exciting opportunity to enhance more people’s lives with the joy of creativity, leading to personal and professional success.

As with all enduring organisations and communities of people, a strong heritage and value driven philosophy are the key to iscd’s success.

In 1983, iscd was born with a vision contrary to the education of the times. The founder, Prue Royle, was determined to break down the barriers for entrance into the elite world of art and design. Having been taught by Phyllis Shillito, a second- generation Bauhaus teacher, Prue was strongly influenced by the concept that “art and design should be available to the whole community”

iscd’s focus has always been on nurturing the individual through their creative journey; whilst offering a balanced, well- structured and realistic curricula, relevant to the needs of an ever- changing society.

Since the school’s humble beginning in a community hall on Sydney’s lower North Shore, Prue has embraced the zeitgeist and focused on continual improvement and academic methodologies that allow for dynamic, comprehensive, enjoyable and life-changing education.

In the 1990’s, the international design industry grew and a new awareness of the importance of design in our everyday lives created a demand for quality design education. The school expanded its campus to full time premises on the North Shore and to a prestigious harbourside campus and gallery.

In 2000 the iscd concept of the holistic designer was conceived and in 2006 the school consolidated into one campus in the beautiful harbour suburb of North Sydney. Following the original vision to provide creative education to everyone everywhere, Distance Learning programs were released in 2008.

With an increased awareness of the business of design in the 2010s, a new focus has developed, offering business mentoring to students and alumni, as well as custom designed programs on colour, design and customer service for business.

Simultaneously, we have introduced a range of leisure courses for people wanting to embrace creative education for their own interest.

A passionate team of educators, trained in the concept that education consists of two themes: “edu+care”, has been important to our success. To this day, the combination of knowledge and skills taught in a nurturing style has been the prime reason for the success of our graduates.

The next chapter in our story started recently, when we proudly joined the RedHill Education Group, a publicly listed company, offering premium education to Australian and International students.

iscd is now successfully embracing a new and exciting opportunity to enhance more people’s lives with the joy of creativity, leading to personal and professional success.
