Brook Gossen, Suzanne Gorman, Sheridan Hume, Emma Levitt and Maryla Johns from the International School of Colour and Designare stamping their first mark on the design world after being chosen as finalists in the annual ‘Art on the Floor' competition and exhibition held in partnership with Australian rug manufacturer Designer Rugs.
A fusion of industry and education, ‘Art on the Floor' is celebrating its 11th anniversary and is open to both on-campus and distance education students from iscd's renowned Foundation Course. The finalists' designs, chosen from 550 entries from 210 students, have been hand woven into bespoke Designer Rugs pieces.
The major prize winner will be announced in mid May with the winning rug going home as an award to the designer and the remaining finalists' rugs available for sale.
"I am extremely proud of the 11 year association between iscd and Designer Rugs" said iscd's Founding Director Prue Royle. "It is such a wonderful opportunity for our students to work on a commercial brief and have the chance to see their design manufactured into beautiful rugs ready for sale."
The 2011 Art on the Floor finalists and winning design will be on display at the iscd gallery from 14 May - 24 June 2011, 10am-4pm, Monday to Saturday.
