An exciting course covering the skills and techniques required to become an exhibiting artist.
Pushing boundaries and exploring new concepts this is a skills-based course for aspiring artists wishing to explore and extend their artistic experiences and develop confidence with different techniques and media including drawing, acrylics, watercolours, oils and mixed media. Specialist features include professional practice and preparation of work for exhibition and sale.
The main aim of this course is to foster creative expression and the create work students are proud to exhibit.

Becoming a visual artist
- Working to a personal coaching program
- How to achieve artistic and professional gaols
- Introduction to a wide range of media techniques and skills
- Advanced colour and design theory
Developing new skills with mixed media techniques
- Learning through demonstration and experimentation
- Acrylic painting mediums, water-colours, gouache, inks, mark-making
- Paint application techniques, tools, drying retarder, flow mediums, impasto; textured primers, shellac, sgraffito, optical colour mixing
- Resist and printing techniques, mono prints, lino prints
- Textural effects, collage and decollage. Small canvases, canvas boards, works on stretched paper, canvas painting
Drawing
- Materials, techniques and structural grounds
- Drawing on right side of brain, using a viewfinder and drawing tools
- Subject and themes: found objects - line, shape and mass, flowers and foliage
- Drawing with wet and dry media, colour ink and wash, watercolour pencils

Duration
On campus - 15 lessons of 6 hours (6 months). Courses commence February and July.
Entry Requirements
The iscd Foundation Course - Certificate IV in Design, is the prerequisite for the Art on the Edge – Visual Arts Certificate.
We offer 'Recognition of Prior Learning' for those students already practiced in visual arts techniques or with extensive experience in the design industry.
