This month iscd Interior Styling student Cara Isaacs took to House & Garden for a realistic industry lesson on styling for one of Australia's most popular liftstyle magazines.

Cara has been asisting a freelance stylist for a variety different briefs. She coordinates the sourcing of props and recently assisted on location for Jamie Durie's new range of outdoor furniture and homeware's catalogue as well styling the product launch event.

"The experience has been incredible. I have really enjoyed the variety of jobs that a freelancer works on. I have been lucky enough to assist a great stylist who has taught me so many new skills. From writing up magazine stockist credits, organising products to loan for shoots and working alongside the photographer to frame the perfect shot." says Cara

Cara explains how iscd has given her the solid foundation of knowledge to build upon and adapt to different aspects of the design industry.

"The skills gained from the Interior Styling course have been a great asset to me, particularly in regards to magazine work. The fundamental principles of design play a major role when putting together a story for print. Each shot needs to have balance, harmony, proportion, colour and movement as well as taking into account how each page will flow together within a spread" she explains.

See the beautiful creations Cara assisted in putting together, working with professionals Jessica Hanson and Maree Homer in the September 2010 issue of House & Garden Magazine on stands now.
